Facebook partners Xiaomi for making standalone VR headset: Oculus Go
Facebook’s Oculus had announced its standalone VR headset Oculus Go in October 2017. Facebook VR VP Hugo Barra revealed some news about the headset at CES 2018 press conference. He shared that Facebook has partnered with Xiaomi to make the headset. Xiaomi is the former employer of Hugo Barra. He also revealed that it will launch a version of a product for Chinese market exclusively.
Xiaomi would be the hardware partner for Oculus Go headset. It would also make China-specific Mi VR standalone VR headset using Oculus technology. Oculus at the press conference said that they are closely working with Qualcomm and would use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 processor to power the mobile VR headset.
The company is going to release the headset in early 2018 and will be available at a price of $199. Oculus Go is going to be all in one VR headset. It is a standalone headset with built-in processor and display so there is no need for cords or to connect your mobile device to the headset. The headset is powered by Android so you can run your favorite VR application. It will enable you to play movies, run games, and help you to meet up with friends in VR.
